Music artist Kenny G filed for a divorce last week, TMZ reports. The Grammy winner is seeking for joined custody of his son, but doesn’t want to pay his soon-to-be-ex-wife spousal support.
On Thursday, August 9, saxophonist Kenny G filed for a divorce from his wife of 20 years, Balynda Helene Benson-Gorelick. Citing irreconcilable differences, the music artist, who won a Grammy Award in 1993 for “Forever In Love”, asked to share the custody of his youngest son with his wife.
However, when it comes to spousal support, he is not willing to reach for his wallet. According to the papers filed by Kenny G’s lawyer, Laura Wasser, the couple signed a prenup, which allows the musician to keep his estimated $50 million fortune intact.
Their divorce will be handled in Los Angeles, by a private judge, in order for the couple to avoid the drama that is usually created around a celebrities’ divorce.
This was not the couple’s first separation attempt, according to the Associated Press. In January, Benson-Gorelick filed for separation. The case has not proceeded, though.
Kenny G, born Kenneth Bruce Gorelik, 56, married Balynda Helene Benson in 1992. Together they have two sons: 18-year-old Max and 14-year-old Noah.
