It’s confirmed – Mark Wahlberg joins the “Transformers 4” cast. Following weeks of rumors and claims they were nothing more than rumors, director Michael Bay announced publicly the new addition to the movie’s cast.
The actual script for the upcoming film is mostly unknown but one thing is sure: Wahlberg will star in “Transformers 4”. Bay claimed that there were in fact the rumors concerning the Academy Awards nominee possibly joining the movie that got him seriously thinking about approaching him. This wouldn’t be the first time the director makes important decisions on the whim of the moment. When “Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon” was released he announced it would be the last movie of the series. Seems like the Universal Studios convinced him otherwise.
This isn’t the first time the two work together. Wahlberg acted under Bay’s direction once more in the past, for the production “Pain and Gain”, which also featured Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. “Mark is awesome. We had a blast working on ‘Pain and Gain’ and I’m so fired up to be back working with him. An actor of his caliber is the perfect guy to re-invigorate the franchise and carry on the ‘Transformers’ legacy.”, the director said in his official statement.
Now that the franchise has an Oscar nominated actor to build around, the story could be shaped in any number of ways and the rumored darker side of the forth Transformers installment feels more plausible.
The cast news aside, the recent statement also revealed the new Transformers logo still missing a subtitle. Whether Paramount will decide to stick with the ‘4’ or go for a catchier rider, the future will tell.
