Despite his busy schedule, Darren Criss found time to honor his charity Christmas tradition. According to CBS News, the “Glee” star performed at a Toys for Tots event last Sunday in New York City.
Criss insisted that his schedule would permit him to attend the event for the third year in a row and performed several Christmas songs for the children benefit event. The Toys for Tots program ensures that kids with limited financial backgrounds have gifts to open for the holidays.
The actor is very fond of his charity Christmas tradition and finds it extremely important to be a part of the show each year. “For me, I think everybody with half a heart tries to do their best to do their part of good during the holiday season. Hopefully, I’m just a gateway for other people to get into doing better things,” he told CBS News.
Darren’s outdoor performance had quite a numerous audience despite the rain and included a guitar mix of holidays songs like: “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree,” “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” and Alvin & the Chipmunks’ “Christmas Don’t Be Late.”
Criss’ involvement with the program started in 2010 when he asked his fans to bring a toy to his show, all of which were afterwards donated for the cause. For this year, his performance was partnered by eBay, who decided to match all the donations made via the website for the whole of December. People who want to get involved with the program can either use the website or their smartphone application to select a gift that will reach a hopeful kid.
