With Christmas closing in fast, kids and grown ups alike rush to complete their wish lists. Few people stop to consider what they really hope they won’t find under the Christmas tree. Lets look over the worst holiday gift ideas together so we can all avoid causing a disaster!

Worst holiday giftsFirst on the list is the Furby. At first glance the $54 toy seems like a good option if you are looking for a present that can chat with people, iPads and other Furbys. However, the shockingly colorful toy with big, round, irresistible eyes lacks a simple on/off button which makes it utterly annoying to disengage. The only option available is to actually remove the batteries.

The Wii U is selling just as fast as the Furby, but it is just as much of a miss, as the device’s GamePad unit runs on a short life battery. With a starting price of $300, the newest game console includes a few interesting features: connectivity to Nintendo’s new social gaming network, access to Netflix movies and TV shows, and a 6.2-inch touch-screen. According to Jeff Balakar at CNET, “the Wii U’s lack of compelling exclusive software and the overall unpolished user experience makes it tough to recommend it in its current state.”

The Microsoft Surface tablet is barely leaving the shelves as it is considered too pricy. The device retails for $499, an amount considered way too high to appeal to the consumers who are looking for a cheaper alternative to the iPad and have the Nexus 7 and Amazon Kindle Fire to choose from.

One fashion item that does not make for a good Christmas gift is the dress. Everything about it is incredibly personal, from the sizing to the color to the style. “Dresses are the trickiest item to buy for anyone other than yourself,” says Connie Wang of Refinery29. So unless you plan to take the person along to choose for themselves, keep away from the fashion stores!
