Actress Lauren Bacall, who passed away on August 12, left $10,000 to her dog, a Papillon named Sophie. According to Yahoo! News, the rest of the fortune, estimated at about $26 million, will be split between Bacall’s three children.
We had to say goodbye to 89-year-old Lauren Bacall earlier this month. The Hollywood icon was known, throughout her life, for her passion for pets and her Papillon dog Sophie is the living proof of the love and care that the actress had when it comes to dogs. She set aside $10,000 for the pet, according to papers filed Friday in Manhattan Surrogate’s Court. Sophie will remain in the care of Bacall’s youngest son, actor Sam Robards.
The rest of the fortune, estimated at $26 million and including her apartment in the famed Dakota building, where she has spent the last years of her life, will be split between her three children: Sam Robards, Leslie Bogart and Stephen Bogart.
Bacall also left $250,000 to each of her grandkids. Two of her employees received money, as well: Mrs. Santos received $20,000 and Mrs. Hernandez was given $15,000.
In a 2008 interview to actress Glenn Close, Lauren Bacall opened up about her love for dogs. “I was always a dog yearner. I didn’t have a dog growing up in the city with a working mother. As an only child, I yearned for someone to talk to”, she told Close. “When I was 16, we got a champagne-colored Cocker Spaniel and named him Droopy. From the first moment, [Droopy] was very possessive of me. All my dogs have been possessive of me.”
