Apple Watch on discount for Aetna customers
Apple Watch will be on discount for the customers of the insurance company Aetna, according to a press release on Tuesday, September 27. With this, Aetna is marking the launch of a new customer health initiative, which features the Apple device.
A news release by Ethan Slavin, the spokesperson for Aetna became of high interest in the tech world. The statement announced the company’s initiative of „revolutionize members’ consumer health experience”. Though not mentioning a specific date, the health insurance giant is promising clients an exclusive offer of discounted Apple Watches, thus stimulating them to „live more productive, healthy lives”. Aetna’s new software, developed in partnership with Apple and called iOS HealthKit, is able to monitor vital signs and record exercise, from simple movement, such as time spent standing, to steps taken while walking, to jogging.
The Hartford-based insurer also said it would provide an Apple watch for each of its employees, free of charge. And all of them – about 50,000 people – will be „enrolled” into the wellness reimbursment program.
Under the IT giant’s umbrella, Aetna is planning a number of iOS-exclusive health apps, aimed to help its user improve their management of their health status. They are among the few apps thata re currently adapted for multi-device use.
Aetna CEO Mark Mertolini says that this is just the beginning. „“We are incredibly excited to use iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch to create simple, intuitive and personalized technology solutions that will transform the health and wellness experience for our members,” he said. On the other hand, Apple is happy with the pairing, too. „“We are thrilled that Aetna will be helping their members and employees take greater control of their health using Apple Watch”, stated Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook.
Here are the main features that Aetna apps are focused on:
· Care management and wellness – this refers to support from nurses and other people that share the same health condition;
· Medication adherence – a feature that helps people remember to take their medication and connect with their doctors via Apple Watch;
· Integration with Apple Wallet – this feature will help the customer pay bills and check deductibles;
· Personalized health plan – with the help of the company’s members.
All these will be launched in the first month of 2017.
