Actress Mischa Barton has checked into hospital for mental evaluation on Thursday, after the police and the fire department were called several times to her home.
In the morning hours of January 25, several calls were made to the police and the fire department to the apartment of actress Mischa Barton, situated in West Hollywood. The calls were made around 7:15 a.m. and, according to TMZ, the callers, probably neighbors, were suspecting either she overdosed, or she was suicidal, or both.
Photos published by TMZ show the 31-year-old in extreme distress, hanging over the fence of her backyard. She was reportedly saying something about her mother being a witch and mentioned Ziggy Stardust.
When the officers arrived to the location, they found Barton in the company of a houseguest. According to People, Sergeant Duncan of West Hollywood Sheriff’s Department stated the two were “fully clothed” and Barton was coherent. She was taken to the hospital for a mental evaluation. She went voluntarily.
The day before, Mischa Barton celebrated her 31-birthday and was in good spirits, according to guests.
This is not the first time that Barton suffered a breakdown. Back in 2009, The O.C. star was admitted, against her will, to a psychiatric hold at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. She had checked-into hospital to have her wisdom teeth removed, but was then sectioned in a psychiatric unit for two weeks. The reason the actress gave Tatler magazine in a November 2010 interview was her lashing out at nurses. She explained it was the dental pain that drove her mad. “I was in a lot of pain and if they feel you are depressed or a danger to yourself they can hold you on a 5150.”
The actress said she has been called “insane” for a long time after the incident. “For ages after that 5150 I’d walk down the street and people would give me the crazy eye: “There’s Mischa Barton, she’s insane, isn’t she?”
