8-year-old Maddie Aldridge is in critical yet stable condition at a hospital where she was rushed via helicopter after her ATV accident, on Sunday.
Maddie Aldridge, the daughter of country singer Jamie Lynn Spears, has been in a terrible accident on Sunday. As previously reported (first by TMZ and then by all the media), The 8-year-old was on a hunting expedition in Louisiana, driving an ATV. The vehicle flipped over and landed in a pond. The little girl was stuck underwater for several minutes, while her parents were trying to unfasten her seatbelt.
Maddie was first rushed to the nearest hospital, in an unconscious state, after having been deprived of oxygen for several minutes. A helicopter then transported her to a hospital in New Orleans, where she is now fighting for her life.
An investigation on the case from the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s department offers more details and a timeline on how the accident took place. It appears that on Sunday, around 3 p.m., the Watson-Spears-Aldridge family was out on an expedition. Maddie was driving a Polaris ATV. At one point, she tried to avoid a drainage ditch and the vehicle flipped over, into the pond. It sank. Jamie Spears and husband Jamie Watson were 100 yards away from Maddie. They rushed to help her, but had a hard time unfastening her safety belt. Maddie spent several minutes underwater. She was rescued by paramedics and rushed to the hospital.
Meanwhile, every report confirms Maddie’s critical state, which the doctors have confirmed it became stable. Spears family representatives have asked for privacy on the matter, while Jamie and Britney’s father, James, told ET: “All I can say is pray for our baby Maddie”.
On Tuesday, Britney Spears posted a photo of her niece and the family dog on Instagram, asking fans for prayers and good thoughts sent to Maddie: “Need all the wishes and prayers for my niece ?”
It is believed that the ATV Maddie was on when she had the accident was the very one she received on her birthday, in June 2015, when she turned 7. The vehicle, a Polaris RZR 170, was a source of overjoy and excitement for the little girl, at that time.
Polaris states, according to TMZ, that their main concern has always been the safety of their clients. In the manual that comes with the ATV, is written: “Never allow a child under age 10 to operate or ride as a passenger in this vehicle”.
