Updates in Maddie Aldridge case
After the terrifying accident that 8-year-old Maddie Aldridge went through on Sunday, her mother Jamie Lynn Spears, and her aunt, Britney Spears, asked fans to pray for the little girl, who couldn’t wake up from the coma. Here are the updates on the case:
On Wednesday, February 8, Britney Spears tweeted that her niece was doing slightly better. “We are so grateful to share that Maddie is making progress. Thank you all for sending thoughts and prayers our way. Let’s all keep praying”, the pop star wrote.
The good news was also shared by Jamie Lynn’s husband, Jamie Watson. He posted on Instagram: “Thank you to everyone for the prayers. Maddie is doing better and better. Thank y’all so much.”
On February 7, it was reported that Maddie regained consciousness. A representative for the Spears family told People that “with her father, mother and stepfather by her side, Maddie regained consciousness mid-day Tuesday”, but she is still receiving oxygen. The statement added that she had the ventilator removed and was able to talk, but is still under close monitoring for possible neurological damage. She appears to have none, so far.
Maddie has been deprived of oxygen for several minutes, after landing in a pond, with the ATV that she was driving, on Sunday. She was on the family property, when she tried to avoid a drainage ditch and the ATV, a Polaris RZR 170, flipped over. She sank with the car and was stuck there, despite her parents’ efforts to release her safety belt. She was taken out of the pond by paramedics after a few minutes and rushed to the hospital, where she remained unconscious until Tuesday.
Maddie Aldridge is the daughter of 25-year-old country singer Jamie Lynn Spears and her ex-boyfriend, 27-year-old Casey Aldridge. The couple announced they were expecting when they were 16 and respectively 18 years of age, making Jamie Lynn a teenage mom. At the time, her pregnancy sparked controversy, as she was known, until then, as Britney Spears’ baby sister and a “good girl”. She was also accused of presenting teenage pregnancies in a glam manner, thus indirectly encouraging it.
Jamie Lynn is currently married to businessman Jamie Watson. The couple started dating in 2010 and he popped the question in 2013. Their wedding took place in New Orleans, in March of 2014.
