Actress Emma Thompson says that years ago, Donald Trump asked her out on a date. Not only that, but her offered her accommodation, too.
OK, this happened a long time ago, before Donald Trump had any plans on running for president, but actress Emma Thompson just revealed it: she was asked out by the current U.S. President.
The 57-year-old actress recalls that it happened in 1997. She was divorced from Kenneth Branagh and he was …looking. Melania was not in the picture at that time.
Thompson shared the story while invited on a TV show in Sweden, recently. She called the story “very funny”, before starting to say: “I was doing a film called Primary Colors with John Travolta in Hollywood”. As she was on a break, in her trailer, the phone rang and on the other end of the line was none other than business mogul Donald Trump. I lift up the phone. ‘Hi, it’s Donald Trump here.’ I said ‘Really? Can I help you?’”, the actress says. His reply was: “I just, you know, I wondered if I could offer you some accommodation in one of my Trump Towers. They’re really comfortable.'”
After offering her “really comfortable” accommodation, Trump added that he believed they would get along very well and added: “Maybe we could have dinner sometime.”
Confused, Thompson thanked him and said she would get back to him. But apparently never did, because she told the show she regrets not taking him up on his offer. “Think of the stories”, she said.
The Hollywood star concluded that she never got to meet Trump and has never spoken to him since.
Emma Thompson is best known for her roles on Howards End (1992), Sense and Sensibility (1995), Love Actually (2003) and Saving Mr. Banks (2013). She is married to actor and producer Greg Wise since 2003. They have two children together: a daughter born in 1999 and a son that they have informally adopted from Rwanda, in 2003, when he was 16 years-old.
