Shannen Doherty recently hosted the Gratitude Gala of Animal Hope and Wellness Foundations and told the press: “I wish I could be Marc Ching.” Ching is the Organization’s founder and one of Doherty’s heroes.
As you may already know, actress Shannen Doherty has been though a rough couple of years, due to her health. Having been diagnosed with cancer in 2015, the Beverly Hills 90210 star went from bad to worse when, in May 2016, she had a double mastectomy. Following the surgery, she went through chemotherapy and then radiotherapy, processes she has been very open about on social media.
The actress had her last treatment session a few days ago and dubbed herself “the cancer slayer” in an inspiring video posted on Instagram on Friday. “This is one way to spend your Friday…. new routine Neda came up with today. She gave me 20 to learn it. Love my @jammalibu #cancerslayer”, she captioned the video:
On Sunday, just before starting preparations to host the Gratitude Gala, she took a moment, immortalized in another Instagram post, to write her note cards. “Before the makeup and the dress, comes the note cards. Last minute prep work for @animalhopeandwellness gala tonight. So honored to be hosting. #ah&wgala.
The 42-year-old attended the gala in the company of her husband, photographer Kurt Iswarienko and told the press she was doing “great” and she felt lucky to be a part of the event, “lucky that we get to be a voice tonight for the voiceless.”
Of founder Marc Ching, she revealed that he was one of her heroes. “Marc is a hero to me and I look up to him and I admire him. I don’t know how many times I say to myself like, ‘I wish I could be him”, Doherty told People, revealing that she “called them and begged to clean dogs, to do whatever I had to do.”
Shannen Doherty has always been an animal lover and an avid animal rights activist.
