Belgian designer Raf Simons is the new artistic director of Christian Dior. His first show will be presented in July 2012, in Paris. Simons has gained a prestige by previously working for Jil Sander.
Simons comes to take the place of renowned designer John Galliano, after he was convicted for anti-Semitic insults, last year. While in a bar, Galliano declared himself an admirer of Hitler and told some women that they and their parents should be dead. Clearly under the influence of alcohol, Galliano, was recorded with a phone camera.
When the incident surfaced, Dior did not hurry to replace its top designer, but was eventually forced to make the decision of looking for an original artistic talent elsewhere, as Galliano was not “available” anymore.
On Monday, a spokesperson for Christian Dior stated that Raf Simons will “inspire and propel into the 21st century” the fashion works of the famous house.
