Thursday, Ubisoft announced a partnership with Marvel Entertainment to create a game based on the successful “superhero gang” from The Avengers. The game will be titled “Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth” and will be available Wii U and Xbox 360.
Tony Key, Ubisoft VP of Sales and Marketing, told The Associated Press:
“The idea that we’re making a motion-control version of ‘The Avengers’ is a unique proposition if you compare that to superhero games of the past.”
Captain America, The Hulk, Thor, and Iron Man will be fighting an invasion of genetically altered Skrull aliens. The title will feature 20 Marvel characters and will be based on Marvel’s “Secret Invasion” comic series, rather than the recently launched movies.
Ubisoft hasn’t officially announced a release date, however Key said that the disc based version is expected to be available soon after Wii U will be launched (later this year).
The recently launched Avengers movie, featuring Robert Downey Junior as Iron Man, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Scarlett Johansson as the Black Widow and Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk, brought in earning of over $207 million in its opening weekend.
Last years fans freaked out when leaked concept art footage was unofficially released on youtube of an upcoming “Avengers” first person shooter. The footage was quickly brought down by Marvel, which declined to answer any questions about it.
