Recently, Hollywood actress Kathy Bates had to make a difficult decision regarding her body. “After much consideration”, she underwent a double mastectomy.
64-year-old actress Kathy Bates revealed to People magazine that, after being informed by her doctors, a few weeks ago, that she had breast cancer, she chose to undergo massive surgery: a double mastectomy. “After much consideration, I underwent a double mastectomy”, she said. “Luckily, I don’t have to undergo radiation or chemo.”
It is, indeed luck, as the Academy Award winner had already gone through a similar situation nine years ago, when she received the diagnosis of ovarian cancer. Back in March, she revealed on “Anderson” that her battle with cancer had started years ago, but she was advised to keep it private. “I was contracted to go into a movie at that time, Little Black Book with Brittany Murphy, who I miss very much. My doctors at the time, they had to get insurance approval and all of that so I was very quiet about it and had to go back to work right away”, she told Anderson Cooper. At that time, she also said that if she were to go through cancer battle again she’d be more forthcoming: “I think I’d be more courageous next time.”
And she is. “My doctors have assured me I’m going to be around for a long time,” Bates assures us. “I’m looking forward to getting back to work doing what I love to do.”
