On Tuesday morning, the network behind the Drag Race reality show, Logo, released a statement announcing the sad news of the death of Sahara Davenport. “Logo is profoundly saddened by the passing of Antoine Ashley who fans around the world knew and loved as Sahara Davenport”, the company writes in the statement, praising the artist’s performance. “He was an amazing artist and entertainer who’ll be deeply missed by his Logo family.”
Davenport’s boyfriend, Karl Westerberg, tweeted a painful “I love him so much” on his wall.
“Shocked and heartbroken over @SaharaDavenport. Never occurred to me that we’d ever lose one of our girls. I see them as immortal”, tweeted RuPaul.
Antoine Ashley rose to fame in 2010, when he entered the Drag Race competition as Sahara Davenport. He was eliminated in the sixth episode of Season 2.
Davenport and Westerberg, who also participated in Season 3 of Drag Race, released a duet, “Baby It’s Cold Outside”, in December of last year. As a solo artist, Davenport released singles “Pump With Me” and “Go Off”.
