How your favorite celebs spend ThanksgivingSome celebrities chose to spend their Turkey Day giving back to the community and joined LA Mission for their 76th annual event that took place on Wednesday. Neil Patrick Harris, Malin Akerman, Kirk Douglas, Blair Underwood, Bella Thorne, Matt Bomer and  joined the LA Mission volunteers team in handing out 4,000 meals to the homeless.

The organizers put together a feast featuring 3,000 pounds of smoked turkey, 700 pounds of corn and maple stuffing, 80 gallons of gravy and 800 pounds of vegetables, all cooked under the direct supervision of “Top Chef” winner Michael Voltaggio.

In a piece written for Los Angeles Confidential, Kirk Douglas, a veteran of the LA annual event, talked about his reasons for constantly coming back to help out the Mission. “It’s a gratifying experience handing a hot meal to those who need it. I can’t help but remember the words my mother said to me: ‘Help someone worse off than you are’,” the actor said.

Teen actress and model Bella Thorne teamed up with her boyfriend, Tristan Klier, in order to distribute the food. “I’m the plate server … He’s the plate runner!, “ the “Shake It Up” star tweeted during the event.

Other celebrities spent their holiday either at home or on the road. Bret Michaels spend his Turkey Day half home, half on the road. He flew in to see his family for the traditional turkey, mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce dinner then returned the same day to his tour.
