Hugh Jackman will be returning in the “X-Men: Days of Future Past” sequel as Wolverine. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the actor is currently in talks and might be joining the cast of the upcoming movie.
Earlier this week, Bryan Singer, “X-Men: Days of Future Past”s director, posted on his Twitter account that James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart have already signed up to star in the future prequel/sequel movie. Jackman might be added to the team soon enough.
A sneak peek at the film’s plot reveals a storyline partially taking place in an alternate future where most of the X-Men have been hunted down and killed and the surviving mutants are kept in concentration camps while giant robots called Sentinels patrol America. In the present day, the X-Men need to prevent such a possible future from unfolding by stopping a key event from taking place.
In the Marvel comic books Wolverine is depicting as a virtually ageless character, which enabled him existing both in the “First Class” timeline as well as in the future-bending “Days of Future Past”.
The X-Men series includes five movies so far, with two more in the makings. Jackman has recently finished shooting for “The Wolverine”, a sequel to “X-Men: Wolverine”, which is scheduled to hit the theaters in July, 2013. “The X-Men: Days of Future Past” is set to be released during the summer of 2014, most probably in July as well.
While pending the release of his hot-tempered, adamantium-clawed superhero movies, Jackman can be watched in the musical adaptation of “Les Misérables” which will be available in cinemas across the United States on Christmas Day.
