Kate Upton’s sexy commercial for Mercedes-Benz stirred up some controversy. According to Los Angeles Times, the supermodel’s performance in the latest car company’s ad for their brand new CLA was deemed by the Parents Television Council as a regress for the female image.
The commercial, entitled “Kate Upton Washes the All-New Mercedes-Benz CLA in Slow Motion”, reveals the sexy supermodel using her appeal to get her car washed, without even touching it, let alone actually engaging in the activity teased in the title.
The actual job is left to some almost-cute and definitely mesmerized young men wearing football jerseys who are, according to the Forbes assessment, representing the “new, hip, and preferably younger buyers” the new CLA primarily targets.
The spokeswoman for the Parents Television Council presented the group’s take on the ad which is considered to reinforce “for millions of wives, daughters and sisters across the country that you use your sex appeal to get what you want”. “If anything, this ad proves that we’ve regressed rather than progressed over the last several years,” was concluded.
Mercedes-Benz fans were quick to react to the ad as well, using the company’s social media accounts on Facebook and YouTube. They gave mixed reviews of the commercial. Some were utterly unimpressed, other called the ad either low-brow or dumb or even borderline porn. At the extremes, people either got an actual kick out of watching “Kate Upton Washes the All-New Mercedes-Benz CLA in Slow Motion” or were left wondering what caused all the fuss in the first place.
One thing is for sure though, the female Mercedes-Benz fans demanded a version depicting a hot man in the leading role and Jake Gyllenhaal’s name was mentioned.
