Shakira gave birth to a baby boy. The Colombian singer brought her first baby into the world on Tuesday in a hospital in Barcelona, Australian Associated Press reported.
The pop star delivery ended at 9.36 pm local time with the cry for life of a baby boy weighting 3 kilograms. In a statement given shortly after the singer gave birth was said that both mother and son are in “perfect health”.
The 35-year-old arrived at the Teknon clinic at 6.30 pm alongside her boyfriend, FC Barcelona soccer star Gerard Pique, 25. In the press release, the couple announced the birth of Milan Pique Mebarak. “The name Milan, means dear, loving and gracious in Slavic; in Ancient Roman, eager and laborious; and in Sanskrit, unification,” they explained.
Another statement posted on Shakira’s website in English, Spanish and Catalan read that “just like his father, baby Milan became a member of FC Barcelona at birth.”
Before going into labor, on Tuesday morning, Shakira asked her fans, via a Twitter post, to join her prayers on the most important day of her life so far. The delivery was a pre-scheduled Caesarean performed by a team lead by Dr. Carlota Garcia-Valdecasa. The obstetrician had also been part of Spain’s Princess Cristina’s delivery of all four of her children.
Reportedly, Shakira asked all the members of the medical team who helped throughout her delivery to keep the details of the process away from the press.
The pop star’s last public appearance took place on January 14th when she attended the presentation of a book signed by her father, William Mebarak, at the Casa del Libro in Barcelona.
