Months after the thyroid cancer surgery, Brooke Burke feels fantastic, as she herself says, and warns about the dangers of cancer. “I had no symptoms”, the “Dancing with the Stars” co-host told omg!
41-year-old Brooke Burke was diagnosed with thyroid cancer last year and just a few months ago she underwent a thyroidectomy. Now, feeling great, the TV personality recalls the harsh experience that she went through since she was diagnosed.
It all started one day when she went to her physician for a routine check-up. The doctor took notice of what seemed to be a lump on her thyroid. It turned out to be cancerous. “I had no symptoms. It was crazy. Not one. Never felt better”, Burke said. So, it was very scary to find out that she has to go under the knife all of the sudden. “I think it’s super important to be a good patient, to educate yourself and do your research”, she says of her next steps. “Cancer can scare the heck out of you, but what I did was really try to understand everything I could about the process that I was going to be going through.”
In the recovery period, the most important thing was the support of her family. “Everybody stepped up. It was quite the role reversal”, Burke recalls. “My husband was awesome. My kids were great. I got to give up carpooling duties for a while, that was awesome.”
Brooke Burke is married to actor David Charvet since 2011 and they have two children together: daughter Rain and son Shaya.
“I’m a big believer in family meetings”, Brooke says, explaining that they are “an awesome place to prepare your family for whatever’s going on in life and also to give them a platform to share their feelings.”
