Oh, no, they didn’t!
“We know Americans love bacon, and we know they love hot dogs” starts a recent statement of Oscar Mayer director Jared Baker, issued on Monday, May 13. According to PR Newswire, the new product will be available in stores next month.
The statement released by Oscar Meyer on Monday announced the arrival of five new products on the market, of which, the most promoted is the Bacon Dogs. This new invention seems to be what Americans have been waiting for in a long time – a combination between two of the most popular foods in the US: bacon and hot dogs. The bacon dogs are made of hardwood-smoked, authentic Oscar Mayer bacon and are perfect for summer grill. You can already find the on the shelves, as they come “just in time for Memorial Day”, according to Sydney S. Lindner, associate director of corporate affairs at Kraft Foods.
It appears the bacon dogs gain in popularity extremely fast, as they have already been met with enthusiasm on the company’s Facebook page and on Twitter. “Most everything is better with bacon on it!!” says David Ware. “This is the best thing I have ever seen,” @xDRainb tweets.
But while the majority is welcoming the idea, there are some who believe this is just another health-destructive food. “Oh noes! I’m trying to avoid processed meats and they invent this!? “Well played, Oscar Mayer, well played…” wrote Jennifer Bourne. “I’d rather just have real bacon wrapped around nitrate-free hotdogs”, commented Anthony Foust.
The ingredients list of the bacon dogs includes, besides bacon, mechanically separated turkey, chicken, and pork, promising no fillers, no artificial coloring or by-products. However, smoke flavor is mentioned.
The other four new products released by Oscar Mayer are:
• fat-free hot dogs
• gluten-free chicken-breast hot dogs
• lite hot dogs
• Smokies smoked sausages in bigger versions
