Apple music released two clips of Mary J. Blige singing to Hillary Clinton during an interview that has not yet been made available for viewers. The whole video will be seen on Friday, on the singer’s Beats 1 radio show called The 411.
During the unusual interview, Mary J. Blige serenades the Democratic presidential nominee with one of Bruce Springsteen’s songs, “American Skin (41 Shots)”. The song was inspired by the death of Amadou Diallo in 1999. Diallo, a 23-year-old immigrant from Guinea, has been shot by police officers in 1999, just outside his apartment. The policemen charged with murder have been acquitted, sparking heated controvesy about police brutality and racial profiling. So it was not by chance that Blige was singing this song particularly. After the song, she leans towards Cliton and grasps her hand asking on a calm yet concerned tone: „I just want t know, where do we go from here?”
The second teaser for the intervew promoted as „an Apple first” , focuses the viewer’s attention on the uniquness of the material. It is an „intimate”, „one on one” conversation with secretary Hillary Clinton, where Blige will ask difficult questions and share with the Democratic presidential nominee things that she has never shared with anyone.
