Eminem’s ex-wife, Kim Mathers, (also known as Kim Scott) has been fined $900 after her suicide attempt, which occurred in October last year. In addition to that, the court sentenced her to one year probation.
On October 7, 2015, Kim Mathers, who has been married to rapper Eminem not once but twice, has tried to take her own life by mixing drugs with alcohol and getting behind the wheel of her Cadillac Escalade, which she ran into a pole. The accident occurred in Macomb Township, Mich. She survived and has faced a trial.
During the trial, it was mostly her attorney, Michael Smith, who talked. Mathers admitted to intentionally causing the accident and pleaded no contest to a reduced misdemeanor count of impaired driving in connection to the crash. Smith argued that his client’s traumatic experience had a profound effect on her emotional state. Since the crash, she has been sober. Also, he motivated her breakdown through her exposure due to the fact that she has been married to a celebrity, which put a lot of pressure on her. “It’s been magnified with anything she does because of who she was married to. It’s unfair, but she understands it, and that goes with the territory”, Smith said.
In the little time addressed the court, Mathers expressed her remorse for having been selfish and not take into consideration the danger she was putting other in. “I didn’t take into consideration anybody else’s safety and the feelings of my family, and I am truly sorry”, she told the judge.
On Tuesday, Mathers was sentenced to one year probation and a $900 fine. She must also submit to random drug and alcohol testing. The best news for her is, though, that she avoided jail time.
Eminem, 44, married Kim Mathers, 42, in 1999 and then again in 2006. The first time, the marriage lasted 2 years. The second time, only four months. The couple has a daughter together, Hailie, who is 20-years-old. They also share daughter Whitney, Kim’s daughter from another relationship, whom Eminem adopted.
