Actors Emma Watson and Dan Stevens make one of the most beloved animated couples come to life in the first Beauty and the Beast trailer.
Emma Watson plays Belle in the movie adaptation of one of the most popular animations ever: Beauty and the Beast. Dan Stevens plays the ferocious-looking-big-hearted Beast.
Don’t expect to see a one on one copy of the Disney movie, though. Producer David Hoberman explained that the story needed reinterpretation for the modern audience. “It was about adding dimension to it”, he said, adding that the addition has the purpose to fill in the story and the characters, giving more meaning to the events, just as in other Disney adaptations, like Pete’s Dragon and The Jungle Book, which premiered earlier this year, Cinderella, released in 2015, Maleficent, released in 2014 and Alice in Wonderland, in 2010.
The Beauty and the Beast cast includes Luke Evans as Gaston, Josh Gad as LeFou, Kevin Kline as Maurice, Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Plumette, Audra McDonald as Madame de Garderobe, Ewan McGregor as Lumière and Ian McKellen as Cogsworth.
Earlier this year, Paige O’Hara, the original voice on Belle in the Disney animation has been interviewed, alongside co-stars Robby Benson (Beast voice) and Richard White (Gaston voice), about the cast for the upcoming production. They could not have been more pleased. O’Hara believes that Watson “has got the intelligence [and] the humor” for the character, while White believes “the trailers are gorgeous”.
Emma Watson, 26, is worldwide known for her role as Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter movies, and later for starring in movies like The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012), The Bling Ring (2013) and Noah (2014).
Dan Stevens, 34, is famous for his role as Matthew Crawley in the British television drama Downtown Abbey. He also appeared on The Guest (2014) and A Walk Among the Tombstones (2014).
Beauty and the Beast is set to premiere in the United States on March 17, 2017.
