On Thursday, Val Kilmer made his first public appearance since denying cancer diagnosis and explained why he struggles to speak. The actor was presenting the movie version of the one-man play that he starred in, Citizen Twain, when he explained that his tongue was swollen and that he was in recovery.
Val Kilmer had difficulty speaking at the Los Angeles premiere of the movie version of his play, Citizen Twain. The 56-year-old was slurring and was dabbing his mouth with a tissue. He explained t the audience that his tongue was (still) swollen and that he was going through recovery. He said that the issue started when he was rehearsing for the play in Florida. “Obviously I’m still recovering”, the actor said, adding that he has cancelled all tours. He was not willing to talk more about his health, but he addressed the rumors regarding the root of his health problem on Facebook.
Earlier this month, it was Michael Douglas whom Kilmer says “speculated” about his health, mentioning oral cancer. “I love Michael Douglas but he is misinformed”, the actor starts his post on Facebook on November 2. He details that he is friends with Douglas, but they have not spoken in approximately two years. At that time, Kilmer asked Douglas to refer him to a specialist for a lump in his throat. Later, says Kilmer, it has been found that the lump was not cancer. After working with a medical team at UCLA, he is in recovery still, but says he has resumed his work and fans should not be concerned about him taking his health issues lightly.
“Whatever led Michael Douglas to speculate about my health, he’s a loving and devoted friend to a privileged group of talent people around the world, and I’m sure he meant no harm”, the actor wrote.
