Actress Meghan Markle has written her second essay on Elle U.K. about the racist remarks that she gets from bullies. The Suits star has been targeted after her romance with Prince Harry has been confirmed.
35-year-old Meghan Markle is conflicted about her famous status, as she has been the target of racist remarks from bullies in the past two months. It all started with the rumors about her blooming relationship with Prince Harry.
In early November, the Buckingham Palace released a statement confirming the relationship between the 32-year-old royalty and the American actress and expressing concern about her safety. “Prince Harry is worried about Ms. Markle’s safety and is deeply disappointed that he has not been able to protect her”, the statement read.
Markle has written her first essay in Elle on her mixed heritage in 2015. “To say who I am, to share where I’m from, to voice my pride in being a strong, confident mixed-race woman” has been a stage she has reached after years of not finding her place, due to her biracial origin (Her mother is African-American and his father is Caucasian).
The bullying got to a point that made Markle speak out. “The tweets ran the gamut from: ‘Why would they make her dad black? She’s not black’ to ‘Ew, she’s black? I used to think she was hot.’”, she writes in Elle U.K., outlining the “undercurrent of racism that is so prevalent”.
Coincidentally or not, the actress posted an inspiring photo on Instagram: “In a society that profits from your doubt, liking yourself is a rebellious act”, the text in the picture reads.
Meghan Markle has been dating Prince Harry for eight months now and the two are marking each other’s life in a very positive way. Sources confirm that Harry is “happier than he’s been for many years”.
