Will Smith is not the kind to look back, on the contrary. “I want to aggressively go forward” the Suicide Squad star told Entertainment Weekly about his movie starring choices in a recent interview.
Independence Day 2 vs Suicide Squad. This was actor Will Smith’s choice at some point. During an interview, which took place at Facebook Headquarters on December 8, he explained how he chose between the two screenplays.
“I had to choose between the two of those”, he begins saying. He adds that he saw the choice of doing Suicide Squad as a way to “go forward versus clinging and clawing backwards”, if he had chosen Independence Day, the sequel. Smith mentioned that his choice had nothing to do with the qualities of the movies. “I do want to aggressively go forward and do new things and create and hopefully be able to stumble upon a new heyday”, he added.
Neither Independence Day: Resurgence, nor Suicide Squad sat well with critics. The first has a score of 31% and the second, a core of 26% on Rotten Tomatoes. However, Suicide Squad cashed in a lot more at the Box Office ($325 million), compared to Resurgence ($103 million).
Will Smith’s upcoming movie, a drama titled Collateral Beauty, will hit U.S. theaters December 16. The movie, directed by David Frankel, tells the story of a New York advertising executive, Howard Inlet, played by 48-year-old Smith, whose life is changed by a tragedy. He hides from the world and begins writing letters to Love, Time, and Death. At one point, he starts receiving answers. The drama also stars Edward Norton, Keira Knightley, Naomie Harris, Helen Mirren, Michael Pena, Kate Winslet and Jacob Latimore.
Collateral Beauty has already brought actress Naomie Harris a Hollywood Film Award.
