41-year-old Angelina Jolie is going through a divorce and a custody battle. She filed for divorce from actor Brad Pitt in September of last year, requesting full custody of all of their six children. The actress has not talked about it until now, when she decided to share some of the things she is going through with BBC World News‘ Yalda Hakim, in Cambodia.

“I don’t want to say very much about that, except to say it was a very difficult time”, Jolie started saying. He added: “We are a family and we will always be a family, and we will get through this time and hopefully be a stronger family for it.” The actress added that she is focusing on the well-being of her six children and is trying to “find a way through to make sure that this somehow makes us stronger and closer.”

When she was asked where she saw herself in the following five years, Jolie joked: “At that stage, I hope just standing”, since she is outnumbered. She added, on a more serious note that she sees herself traveling around the world to see her children, who will be doing their own thing in different parts of the globe, and supporting them. She then continues by saying she hopes to be a good example for all her kids and teach them to see the world not through the glam of Hollywood, but in the complex prism of reality.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt married in 2014, but have been in a relationship since late 2005-early 2006. They have become parents to daughter Shiloh, in 2006 and twins Knox and Vivienne in 2008. Prior to that, Jolie had adopted Maddox (in 2002), Pax (in 2007) and Zahara (in 2005). Pitt adopted Maddox, now 15-years-old, and Zahara, now 12, in 2006. He adopted Pax, who is now 13 years of age, in 2008.

At present, 53-year-old Pitt has visitation rights only and that, in the presence of a monitor. During the divorce, he was investigated for child abuse, following an incident on a private flight, when Pitt got physical with his elder son, Maddox.
