This evening, clear your schedule for the two-hour pilot of the drama The Kennedys: After Camelot. The mini-series will air on Reelz between April 2 and April 9. The storyline is based on the book of J. Randy Taraborrelli “After Camelot: A Personal History of the Kennedy Family 1968 to the Present”, released in 2012.
After Camelot offers a view into the aftermath of President John F. Kennedy’s assassination. Jackie Kennedy (played by Katie Holmes) is left a widow, with two kids in her care. Of the character embodies, Holmes says she is dealing with a tragic destiny. “There’s a lot of things that are very tragic. But to me it’s very relatable to what a lot of people go through: death, raising kids, and just family dynamics”.
The movie includes the assassination of Jackie’s brother-in-law, Robert F. Kennedy, her marriage to Aristotle Onassis, her cancer diagnosis and her death.
Matthew Perry plays Edward “Ted” Kennedy. The role posed challenges, as Perry had to portray him in his younger years, as well as in his older years. He manages to go years back and forth every day during filming and the facial prosthetics turned out to be a “very big helper in becoming Ted Kennedy on a daily basis.” Perry says he found very satisfactory playing Ted Kennedy “in the screw-up years and the wonderful years”. “He certainly wins the award for most improved Kennedy”, the actor added.
Used to comedies and having a very smart and sarcastic sense of humor, Matthew Perry, who played Chandler Bing for 10 seasons in the sitcom Friends, said he tried to cheer-up the atmosphere during breaks on the set, but he realized very soon that “it was a very serious set.”
