Michelle Rodriguez won’t do Fast and Furious 9 if the producers won’t take into consideration more feminine energy. The actress who played Letty in the franchise so far took to Instagram to voice her decision.
“F8 is out digitally today”, Michelle Rodriguez announced on Instagram with a collage of pictures from the latest instalment of the Fast and Furious franchise. She continued: “I hope they decide to show some love to the women of the franchise on the next one. Or I just might have to say goodbye to a loved franchise.”
And just so you know she is serious about it, she ended the speech in a farewell manner: “It’s been a good ride & Im grateful for the opportunity the fans & studio have provided over the years… One Love”.
This is not the first time the 38-year-old actress has voiced her opinion about bringing more girl power into the franchise. In September of last year, talking about the F8, she told ET: “It’s definitely gonna be a darker one, darker than we’ve seen before.” The reason might be the villain, which is portrayed by a woman, who goes by the name of Cipher, played by Charlize Theron.
“Theron is, I think, the most powerful villain this franchise has ever seen”, Rodriguez said, adding that, in order for her to continue in the Fast and Furious movies, more females must appear on the screen. “I mean, it’s like a sausage factory in this thing…and I just need some more feminine energy.”
Oh man! What would Fast and Furious be without Letty? And what would Letty be without Michelle Rodriquez? Chances are producers would consider introducing more women into the next installments, which are in the early stages of production. In February 2016, it was announced that the ninth and tenth installments of the blockbuster franchise will premiere on April 19, 2019, respectively on April 2, 2021.
