Rapper Prodigy, from the hip hop duo Mobb Deep, died over the weekend, after a performance in Las Vegas. According to multiple reports, the 42-year-old was rushed to the hospital on Saturday night, after a health problem worsened.

Prodigy’s representative announced on Tuesday, June 20, that the rapper passed away. He was rushed to the hospital after a performance in Las Vegas, on Saturday night. He was supposed to be on stage with the Art of Rap tour, which included Ice-T, Onyx, Ghostface Killah, KRS-One and more.

The rapper began feeling sick after his sickle cell anemia crisis worsened. He did not have a chance to perform.

Earlier that night, Prodigy cancelled a meet & greet with fans, because he was feeling under the weather. According to TMZ, his security team noticed that the rapper was looking ill. The high temperatures may have lowered his immunity level and his condition caused him to get dehydrated quick, which may have cause his death.

However, at the time of the announcement, the rep added that the cause of death has yet to be released.

Rapper Prodigy (real name: Albert Johnson) rose to fame with the help of his rapper friend Nas, as part of the duo Mobb Deep. The other half was Havoc (real name Kejuan Muchita), 43. The two have had their differences in 2012, which caused them to split for almost a year. Havoc had become frustrated with prodigy and even wrote a song about it, called Separated (Real from the Fake), while the duo was on a hiatus. Mobb Deep has reunited in March 2013.

Following his unexpected death, a huge number of rappers were quick to pay him a tribute on social media.

Drake posted a photo of the two of them on Instagram and captioned simply “Infamous’.
