Actor Idris Elba says he won’t marry again as it is not his “life’s calling”. His two previous marriages have made him draw the conclusion that it’s just not for him. He opened-up up about the subject in an interview for Essence magazine.

The August issue of Essence magazine features a cover interview with Golden Globe winner Idris Elba. In it, the 44-year-old talks about his experience in front of the camera, but also behind it. Work aside, the actor talks briefly about the mere chances of settling down for a third time.

Having been through the marriage experience twice, Elba concluded being a husband is not congruent with his lifestyle.  “Am I ever gonna get remarried? I don’t think so”, he confesses. “Marriage is an institution of sorts. And I’ve done it. It’s not for everybody. It’s not my life’s calling.”

Idris Elba first tied the knot with Hanne “Kim” Norgaard, a make-up artist, in 1999. The couple welcomed daughter Isan Elba in 2002. One year later, though, they parted ways.

The second time, he married Sonya Nicole Hamlin, in 2006, but their marriage didn’t even last until the end of the year. The couple divorced after only 6 weeks!

Now 45-years-old, Hamlin spoke about their split with The Daily Mail. “It was very sad. Idris and I were madly in love, but he was getting a lot of flak for being married”, she was telling the media outlet last year in August. She added: “I was always successful, and so having a failed marriage was hard, and then my business took a huge plunge in the recession. It was a double-whammy for me. I didn’t date anybody for years.”

After the divorce from Sonya Hamlin, Idris Elba was romantically linked to several other celebrities, including Madonna and Michelle K, but the most prominent relationship was with current girlfriend, Naiyana Garth, 28. The two started dating in 2013 and one year later she gave birth to their son, Winston. Last year there were rumors that they had gone their separate ways, but those rumors were put to rest when they showed-up holding hands at the BAFTA Awards.

However, after seeing what happened with George Clooney’s sworn bachelor status, Elba should never say “never”.
