Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington committed suicide on July 20, at 41 years of age, TMZ reports. The singer hanged himself.
Bennington’s body was discovered at his home in Palos Verdes Estates in Los Angeles, on Thursday morning, according to TMZ.
For years, the Linkin Park singer was battling drug and alcohol addiction. He has previously revealed he had thought about taking his own life. This, as a result of poor coping with the aftermath of an abuse he suffered during childhood, by another man.
Chester Bennington is survived by 6 children: Jaime, Isaiah, Draven, Tyler, Lilly and Lila.
Bennington was very close friends with another artist who committed suicide recently: 52-year-old Soundgarden and Audioslave singer Chris Cornell. The musician was found dead in his hotel room, on May 17, in Detroit, after a performance with Soundgarden the day before. Even though at first it was believed that is was a drug overdose, the coroner’s reports excluded that hypothesis, concluding that it was death by hanging.
Following Cornell’s death, Chester Bennington posted an open letter to him on social media.
“I dreamt about the Beatles last night. I woke up with Rocky Raccoon playing in my head and a concerned look on my wife’s face. She told me my friend has just passed away”, he wrote. “Thoughts of you flooded my mind and I wept.” He later wrote: “I can’t imagine my life without you in it.”
