In a recent blog post, Katherine Heigl talks postpartum weight loss and the state of mind that helped her bounce back to her ideal weight. The 38-year-old actress also shared some diet recipes she found absolutely delicious.
“Baggage: My Postpartum Weight Loss Journey” is the title of Katherine Heigl’s latest blog post. The Hollywood star wrote, in detail, how she managed to lose the baby weight in just seven months. During the pregnancy months, Heigl says she gained no less than 50 pounds, which came as a surprise for her, since her mother had put on a lot less when expecting.
“I had hoped to only gain 25-30 pounds like my mother during her pregnancies”, the 38-year-old writes. “Despite starting my gestation out on a pregnancy friendly meal plan and hiking my butt off 5 days a week my weight kept creeping up”, she explained, adding that at four weeks pregnant she decided to give up what she had considered a healthy approach and respect her body’s needs and her instinct.
Following the birth of her son Joshua, Heigl dropped 30 pounds almost instantly. Her doctor explained to her the phenomenon: after giving birth, the body also gets rid of the placenta, amniotic fluid, blood and water it had retained.
The rest of 20 extra pounds…those were a different story. “We’ve all heard about the gals who tone up and get right back into their skinny jeans weeks after their babies birth but this was not me, nor was I trying for it to be”, says Heigl, who had planned to lovingly but patiently reclaim her silhouette. With this mindset, she started working out, eating healthy and even appreciate the postpartum scar that she tried to hide so much in the start.
“The years of deprivation, counting every single calorie, completely eliminating major food groups and setting unreasonable weight goals are over” writes the actress, now in favour of reasonable weight loss plans and a body pride she had discovered after the birth.
And now, let’s get down to business! Here is what advice readers can extract from her blog post:
- Low calorie meals are the key
- Don’t stick to certain foods you have planned. Learn to improvise
- Make a goal from eating healthy (not necessarily keeping a diet)
- Try out healthy living services that make your daily routine easier, such as Hello Fresh
- Cook three types of foods that can always save the day: oats, soups, smoothies
- Start every morning with a positive mantra (Katherine’s favorite is: “I am easily, with good health, inspiration, grace and gratitude losing weight faster than I can even imagine with harm to none.”
