Jennifer Lawrence is officially dating Darren Aronofsky, after the two made their first public appearance together at the Venice Film Festival. They didn’t take a couple’s photo, though, but invited Michelle Pfeiffer and Javier Bardem for a group picture.

Jennifer Lawrence, 27, and Darren Aronofsky, 48, have made their first public appearance as a couple at the Venice Film Festival photocall of their upcoming movie, mother!

The duo was first photographed together in August of last year, while they were still filming. Paparazzi caught them having lunch, with no PDA and, at the time, a source from their entourage confirmed to People that they were dating. But it was “casual”.

Jennifer Lawrence and Darren Aronofsky have been dating for a year.

One year later, they’re going strong. “They have a very good relationship that is serious in the sense that they are on the same wavelength”, says a source close to Lawrence, who adds that the two have common interests and “she is comfortable with him and in awe of his brilliance and talent.”

And to balance things, know that the “awe” is reciprocated. The director praised Lawrence’s acting skills in the thriller. “During the big climax of the movie…she really went there. The producers were freaking out. We had to sort of calm it down and then go for it again”, he said, adding that “there’s so much ability there that somehow she can summon it again and again.”

mother! was screened at the festival, on Tuesday, September 5 and is set to premiere in the United States on September 15. The cast also includes Michelle Pfeiffer, Javier Bardem, Ed Harris, Kristen Wiig, Domhall Gleeson, Brian Gleeson, Jovan Adepo and Stephen McHattie.

The movie falls under the psychological thriller category, following the story of a couple’s descent into madness from the moment their life is disrupted by uninvited guests.
