In an interview for The Daily Beast, published on September 9, George Clooney says that Harvey Weinstein is “indefensible”, referring to the latest sexual harassment charges brought recently to the movie producer.

Like many other Hollywood stars, George Clooney is shocked by the sexual-misconduct of 65-year-old Miramax co-founder, Harvey Weinstein.

The sexual harassment allegations surfaced earlier this month. The New York Times published a piece in which a number of women, including actress Ashley Judd, accused Weinstein of harassing them. According to the article, he replied to their allegations, taking the fault and saying: “I appreciate the way I’ve behaved with colleagues in the past has caused a lot of pain, and I sincerely apologize for it.”

Weinstein’s accusers shared a similar scenario which led them to fall victims. They all recounted a business meeting invitation to a hotel. Once arrived, they would have to dodge sexual propositions continuously.

Since the allegations surfaced, Harvey Weinstein has been fired from The Weinstein Company.

George Clooney, one of the actors who starred in Harvey’s movies, has talked candidly to the Daily Beast reporter Marlow Stern. He said he remembered rumors dating from the ‘90s, of actresses sleeping with Weinstein in order to get movie roles. But about those, he thought they were just that – rumors.

However, the recent allegations made Clooney say: “That’s a whole other level and there’s no way you can reconcile that. There’s nothing to say except that it’s indefensible.”

Clooney added that he had no idea of these things happening, even if he was in Weinstein’s entourage quite a lot. Moreover, he said he talked to other people about this and “I don’t know many people who knew of that.”

He added: “Hopefully, this kind of behavior will end—or become harder and harder for it to continue” and invoked the Bill Cosby case as “the watershed moment”. “This is the moment to start scaring people like this into not acting this way anymore.”
