Now a blockbuster Hollywood star, Dwayne Johnson does not have to worry about money, but at age 15, he reveals, his family was struggling to the point they didn’t have a Thanksgiving dinner.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is one of us. He had struggles, he was not born with a silver spoon in his mouth. In fact, the 45-year-old California-native shared in a post on Facebook some of his early memories of Thanksgiving, when his family’s financial situation was strained.
The Sexiest Man Alive – meaning The Rock, as he says himself he refuses to give up his title to this year’s most voted, country singer Blake Shelton – had an extended family Thanksgiving dinner, where everyone waited for their turn to hare what they were thankful for.
He called it “a very special Thanksgiving” before revealing something his mother pointed out at the table. “There was a time back in ‘87 when we couldn’t even afford Thanksgiving dinner and was praying someone would invite us over their house to eat”, the actor wrote. “We were in a tough spot back then, but we got thru it. And here we are today. One big, extended, blended, slightly crazy, loving, grateful ohana.”
After we bowed our heads in prayer, we went around the table and everyone shared what they were thankful for. Beautiful…
Back in ‘87, Dwayne Johnson was 15-years-old. He was part of the high school football and wrestling teams. Ten years later, in 1997, he was winning the Intercontinental Championship in wrestling and become a highly popular wrestler. It was at this time that he named himself The Rock.
In 2001, after having flirted with acting a few times, he was getting his first mainstream role, on The Mummy Returns. And the rest is history.
Recently, The Rock’s 16-year-old daughter, Simone Garcia Johnson, has been nominated the first Golden Globe Ambassador – another thing the actor is really proud and thankful for.
