Actress Jennifer Lawrence and movie director Darren Aronofsky called it quits after a 1-year-romance.

Sources from the couple’s entourage say that the split has occurred earlier this month, but the two chose to keep quiet. One source speaking to ET, who confirms the break-up, too, says that Lawrence and Aronofsky were freshly separated when they showed up together at the Governors Awards in Los Angeles, on November 11. They spent the evening together and the were friendly, the source added.

Jennifer Lawrence and Darren Aronofsky have kept most if their relationship away from the public eye. The two confirmed they were dating only in September of this year, when they came as a couple to the Venice Film Festival photocall of their upcoming movie, mother!

Before that, the duo was spotted hanging out together in August, while they were still shooting. A number of photos showed the 27-year-old actress and the 48-year-old filmmaker getting cozy and romantic.

At the time, sources close to them confirmed to the press that the two were casually dating.

Their break-up is definitely unexpected, especially for Lawrence, who, according to sources close to her, was “in awe of his brilliance and talent” and was feeling very comfortable around him. “They have a very good relationship that is serious in the sense that they are on the same wavelength”, the same source was saying in September.

But, as all things come to an end, some sooner than other, this romance’s sunset can only mean new dating opportunities for both.

Previously to dating Jennifer Lawrence, Darren Aronofsky had a 9-year relationship with Hollywood star Rachel Weisz, whom he cast, as the lead actress, in another jewel of his, the 2006 fantasy drama The Fountain. He and Weisz, 47, share 11-year-old son Henry.

Jennifer Lawrence was romantically linked with Nicholas Hoult, her co-star from X-Men: First Class.
