Lorde takes home two Billboard awards

17-year-old Lorde takes home two Billboard awards. Out of 12 nominations, the singer won the award for top new artist and the one for top rock song. Singer Lorde (real name Ella Yelich-O’Connor) had her acceptance speech on her cell phone, from which she actually read it after being awarded the Billboard award for top new artist. “I really don’t want to screw it up”, she said before starting to read from the screen of her phone. “This whole thing started for me with a song that was written when I was 15, which I know everyone knows, but what I want to say is I’m 17-1/2 now and I’m so thankful … to have had the opportunity to grow and learn as a new artist in the spotlight at this time”, she said.     The second award she received was for top rock song. The nominations list for the 2013 Grammys is out. The 55th annual Awards nominees were announced on Wednesday night in Nashville. The ceremony will take place next February in Los Angeles. The male artists were spoiled on Wednesday when fun., Frank Ocean, Mumford & Sons, Jay-Z, Kanye West and Dan Auerbach from The Black Keys all got six nominations each. One of the most sought after award is the Record of the Year, which has nominees from a variety of genres this year, including rock, pop and hip hop. The award will be going in 2013 to one of the following: “Lonely Boy” by The Black Keys, “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)” by Kelly Clarkson, “We Are Young” by fun.
