“Good Morning America” anchor Robin Roberts has found a matching donor for her MDS, CNN reports. But before undergoing the bone marrow transplant, she will have to go through a chemo treatment. Robin Roberts announced on Monday that she has found a matching donor for her bone marrow disease, known as myelodysplastic syndrome, or MDS. The “Good Morning America” anchor considers herself lucky to have a sister who is a perfect match. “Bone marrow donors are scarce and particularly for African-American women”, Roberts wrote, using the opportunity to raise awareness on MDS. “As you know from my recent interview with Mark Zuckerberg, organ donation is vitally important. Many people don’t realize they can be bone marrow donors. I encourage everyone to sign up on a donor registry”, she added. The MDS appeared as an effect of her breast cancer that went into remission 5 years ago. The myelodysplastic syndrome is a blood and bone marrow disease which involves ineffective production of myeloid cells. Most of the patients are diagnosed between the age of 60 and 75. Symptoms include, anemia, increased susceptibility to infection, bleeding and bruising. Robin Roberts will undergo bone marrow transplant later this...
