How to get a promotion in five easy steps

If you are one of those people who are tired of doing a job they are overqualified for and hope that one day will have a bigger office, a secretary and a book full of appointments, you have to go through these five steps to get a promotion.   Step One – Name it Before you reach the point where you knock on your boss’ office door and tell him all the great things you have done for the company and how perfect you are for a career “upgrade”, you have to make a self-evaluation regarding the much-wanted promotion. Ask yourself what the promotion means to you, including both the wanted and the unwanted changes that would occur once you’ve got it. When you know exactly what it involves and make up your mind consciously about going ahead with it, you can move to step two.   Step Two – Be ready for it Prepare yourself for a new career status. Mentally, emotionally, physically. Start acting like you deserve it and it’s just a matter of time before you get it. Start with any of the three levels that you feel it would be easier to start. Once you set one of them on, the other will follow. Act like you have a higher status in the office and you will start thinking and feeling as if you were,...

Warren Buffet diagnosed with prostate cancer

81-year-old Warren Buffet was diagnosed with stage 1 prostate cancer, Reuters reports. The doctors say the illness is far from being life-threatening of even debilitating. Following the prostate cancer news, Warren Buffet, the third richest man on the planet, made some plans: he will be following a two-month treatment which includes radiation, and will be taking less business-related visits during that time. During his statement on Tuesday, Buffet also says he will limit his travels. The doctors say the cancer is in very early stages and there is no reason for concerns. It is fully treatable and will not, in any way, pose a serious health risk for Buffet. The prognosis, though good, has made a certain subject intensify: the naming of a successor at Berkshire Hathaway. In February, the 81-year-old “Oracle of Omaha” revealed that a successor has been chosen, but the identity of the successor will be withheld. He even revealed that the person chosen doesn’t know it, yet. Berkshire Hathaway Inc. is a multinational headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska, that oversees and manages subsidiary companies that run their business in the following fields: insurance, utilities, energy, clothing, flight services, retail, finance, bonds and more. It is expected that Berkshire’s annual meeting of this year, scheduled on May 5, to focus around Buffet’s diagnosis, as well as on the succession plan....

First born children, favored by life

It may not be fair but life tends to favor the first born children, according to a study led by CareerBuilder. The website has found out that not only do they benefit from more child-parent time, but they are also likely to earn more money and have a higher career spot. If you are a first born, don’t worry about your younger brothers being favored by your relatives, just because they are younger than you. Life has had a better plan for you. It turns out that, according to CareerBuilder surveys, first born kids have higher chances of getting a six-figure salary. On the other hand, middle children have more chances of settling for a job that gets them around 35,000 dollars a year or less. Children that are born last are likely to work in middle management. One psychological explanation resides in the fact that first born kids are expected to be more responsible. They often take part in the raising of their younger siblings and sometimes, they even share the responsibility for some acts that only the little ones did. Sometimes, the older kids tend to feel like they are not love enough and that there are some things in life that they have to face for themselves. This make them build a stronger personality throughout the years. Although this develops as a result of a childhood...

Adoptive mom to pay child support for kid sent back to Russia

Adoptive mom Torry Hansen has sent her son, Artyom Savelyev, like a package, back to Russia. According to her, the child was “psychopathic”. The case led to Russia freezing adoptions to the United States. Hansen was ordered by an US court to pay child support for Savelyev. Artyom Savelyev is a 10-year-old boy, living in foster care in Moscow. For a few months, in 2010, he had been the son of American citizen Torry Hansen. However, the adoptive mom had a change of heart and put him back on a plane to Russia with nothing but a letter of rejection. The boy has been traumatized by the situation. When ABC News came to do a story about his case, Artyom did not want to speak about his experience abroad. He was very shy, very quiet and said “I do not want to talk about this”. When asked if he would consider going back to the United States he only answered by shaking his head no. Vera Egorova, the boy’s foster mother is still outraged by Mrs. Hansen behavior. She told ABC she could not believe a mother would act like that and call the gesture “inhumane”. “She should have been accompanied by adults and not just sent like a package by plane with his documents. It’s bad”, she said. At the time, Russia froze adoptions to the U.S. and...
